What we collect
We collect the minimum necessary to deliver a personalised experience. This falls into three groups:
Account & identity
- Email address — only if you choose to register. Not collected during the anonymous trial.
Body & goal data
- Body metrics — weight, height, age, and gender, provided voluntarily to personalise your calorie and macro targets using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula. All fields are optional.
- Health goal — e.g. lose weight, build muscle, maintain.
- Activity level — used to calculate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).
- Dietary restrictions and allergies — used to filter every meal suggestion. Never shared with third parties.
- Cuisine preferences and pantry contents — used to shape your plan.
Food journal (My Plate)
- Meal logs — text descriptions or food photos you submit to log what you eat each day.
- Food photos — images taken via the camera scan feature are sent to our AI for food identification and are not stored after processing completes.
- Meal scores and nutrition estimates — AI-generated scores and macro breakdowns for each logged meal, stored so you can track progress over time.
- Eating patterns — aggregated summaries (preferred foods, consistent nutrient gaps, variety trends) computed from your last 14 days of journal entries and stored on your profile to make future plans smarter.
Pantry photos — images you upload for pantry scanning are sent to our AI and deleted immediately after your ingredient list is extracted. Not stored.
Friends' Plate & Gangs (social — optional, opt-in)
- Ahara Avatar — a public, searchable handle (AI-generated), a food-emoji icon, an optional display name/nickname, and your favourite food (used to seed the handle and icon).
- Discoverability setting — whether others can find you by handle or QR.
- Connections — who you have connected with, plus pending and declined requests.
- Gang membership — gangs you create, join, or are invited to.
- Shared plates — a per-day flag marking which logged days you have chosen to share. The underlying meal data is never made public beyond meal names.
- Cheers — the reactions you give and receive.
This data is only created if you choose to use Friends' Plate or Gangs.
Why we collect it
- Body metrics and goal data: to calculate a personalised daily calorie and macro target specific to your body, not a generic population average.
- Dietary and cuisine preferences: to filter and shape every meal we generate.
- Food journal entries: to score your meals, track your streaks, show your macro chart, and progressively improve your meal plans based on your actual eating habits.
- Email: to create your account and communicate important updates.
Who can see your social data
Friends' Plate and Gangs let you share with other users you choose — this is not third-party sharing, and we never sell it or use it for advertising. You stay in control:
- Your avatar and handle are searchable and shareable via QR while you are Discoverable. Switch to Hidden and you disappear from search and scans, and no one new can request to connect.
- Your achievements (streaks, badges, weekly plant count) are visible only to accepted friends and active gang members — never to strangers, never fully public.
- Your food journal is private by default. A day appears to others only if you tap “Share this plate”, and even then only the meal names and score are shown — never ingredients, recipes, nutrition values, or your raw notes. You can unshare any day at any time.
- Cheers show your avatar food emoji to the person whose moment you cheered.
- Removing a connection, leaving a gang, or going Hidden takes effect immediately.
How long we keep it
Trial plans are stored anonymously with no identifying information attached. Registered account data — including your profile, meal plans, food journal entries, and social data (avatar, connections, gangs) — is retained for as long as your account is active. A handle you release is reserved for 90 days to prevent impersonation, then freed. You can request full deletion at any time.
Cookies
We do not set any first-party tracking or advertising cookies. Session state is managed via Supabase authentication tokens stored in your browser's local storage.
Who stores your data
Your data is stored on Supabase, a cloud database provider operating in GDPR-compliant data centres. AI processing is handled by Anthropic (Claude). Neither provider stores your personal data beyond what is needed to process your request. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising purposes.
AI processing
The following data is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) for processing:
- Pantry photos — for ingredient identification. Deleted immediately after processing.
- Food photos from My Plate camera scan — for food identification. Not stored after processing.
- Meal text descriptions — to parse and score your food journal entries.
- Your preferences and targets — included as context when generating meal plans and scores.
Anthropic processes this data transiently and does not retain it for training purposes under our API agreement.
Your rights
Trial plans are stored anonymously — there is no name, email, IP address, or cookie linking them back to you. Once you register an account, you have the right to access, correct, or delete all data associated with your account. To request deletion, contact us and we will remove your profile, preferences, meal plans, and journal entries completely. No hoops, no retention tactics.
